Bird and Dragon - Kali [COM]

A full illustration commission for Kali! Similar to Gyro, it appears Kali has found his dragon self! And what better way to say hello to a bundle of fluff than to snuggle up together under a warm sunset?

Really experimented and pushed myself to get lighting done really well in this piece, along with a interesting background to go with. Kali said to just make it cute and gave me pretty much full creative liberties, so I did my best ^-^ He's really into lighting and production, so I'm glad that this turned out as well as it did. Lighting probably is off here or there and I'm sure he's gonna point it out to me, though I do think that I'm greatly improving overall

Also, short story: I actually had to do all the lighting and shading for this drawing twice Clip Studio Paint, the program I use, crashed on attempting to save the final piece, and I hadn't saved since finishing the flat color.. Not only that, but it hard crashed the entire program, instantly closing out and deleting other work I had still up. Thankfully I saved all my other projects from what I remember, or they were just derpy sketches, but losing about 2 hours of shading and lighting work was tough to bear. I turned on a chill livestream, took a few deep and frustration-filled breaths, and powered through it again into the night. It took another 2 hours but honestly despite some small changes, this looks nearly that same as it initially did, with some small improvements to the lighting and background even, so I'm happy. I can finally go to sleep soundly at 5:30AM =w=


Needless to say this project was a bit of an ordeal, though it was very fun to work on. The colors and character(s) and pose was great, and the improved background is much more pleasing to look at.
